# Print an ID card

> Print an ID-only badge with a worker's QR code and photo onto a blank PVC card

An ID card is an ID-only badge that shows the worker's QR code and photo. It is printed onto a blank PVC card that has no proximity chip. Use it for workers who need an identification badge but not tap reader access — for example, on jobsites with scan-based access points like kiosks or handheld scanners.

<Warning>
  Because an ID card has no proximity chip, it **does not work with tap card readers** on doors and turnstiles. Use a [permanent badge](/onboard-workers/creating-new-badges) if the worker needs tap access.
</Warning>

<Steps>
  <Step title="Add a badge">
    Click **+ Add New Badge** from the worker's **Profile > Badges** tab, then select **Print an ID card**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review worker details and select a template">
    Verify or update the worker's photo, trade, and job title. Select a **badge template** to determine the appearance of the card, and choose which **printer** to send the print job to.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Print the ID card">
    Click **Print** to send the card to the selected printer. There is no badge number to register, so the card is ready as soon as it prints. If the print fails, retry the job or [troubleshoot your badge printer](/hardware/troubleshooting-badge-printer).
  </Step>
</Steps>

The printed ID card appears in the worker's **Badges** list. You are not prompted to assign a badge number.
